Acer palmatum Deshojo makes a stunning small tree which adds interest to the garden for months on end. Its five-lobed leaves are a brilliant shade of shrimp pink when they unfurl in spring, turning to green during summer, and finally scarlet in autumn. It is also commonly known as Spring Ruby Tree. It has a bushy but compact form with wide growing, delicate upright branches – an elegant small tree reaching only about 2.5 x 2.5m in height and spread and is therefore suitable for all gardens as well as containers.

For spectacular leaf colour this variety of Acer palmatum is a great choice. Like other Japanese maples, it needs a sunny or partially shaded position which is protected from cold winds.
